The purpose of the SRAC is to transform lives and enrich the community through the arts. We work toward this purpose by making connections across the community, with arts and cultural organizations, teaching artists, businesses, non-profits, and educational organizations across our 27-county service area in southwest Missouri. Our umbrella of support includes management of The Creamery Arts Center; coordination of community events such as First Friday Art Walk, Artsfest, and Free Art Day; providing arts education outreach programs; and support of local and regional non-profit arts organizations through fiscal sponsorship activities.
The SRAC has generously received funding from the Musgrave Foundation to support our Growing Up in the Arts programs, which include Mini Monet, Childhood in its Landscape, and Arts in the Park Summer Workshops. Growing Up in the Arts helps prepare young students for the school environment, encourages continued literacy efforts outside of the school setting, and establishes an environment rich in critical thinking opportunities. These outreach programs focus on working with at-risk youth and, in many cases, providing them with their first successes, helping to build confidence in their abilities to learn and achieve.
Growing Up in the Arts was designed to be a highly collaborative program. The area’s premier arts organizations and teaching artists come together to design these interactive, in-depth programs aimed at instilling cultural and academic confidence as well as a lifetime appreciation for the arts. These organizations include the Springfield Little Theatre, Springfield Ballet, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Springfield Regional Opera, Springfield Art Museum, Springfield Pottery, and MO Poetry Slam Springfield along with other area teaching artists.
